The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is a 100 minute subject-specific admissions test, designed by Cambridge Assessment, for applicants to medicine and surgery courses at universities whose applicants are from a range of educational backgrounds.
These courses are taught in English, with places open to both home and international students. In Italy, the Admissions Testing Service works in conjunction with the Italian Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MIUR), to develop and deliver the English language version of the Italian admissions test already used for entry to courses taught in Italian.
The admission test consists of sixty (60) multiple choice questions with five options (of which only one is correct) on the following topics:
The test is divided in four sections:
Section 1
(22 multiple choice question) covers general knowledge (12 questions) and logical reasoning (10 questions about critical thinking and problem solving).
Sections 2, 3 and 4 cover science-based sections:
biology (18 multiple choice questions), chemistry (12 multiple choice questions), physics and mathematics (8 multiple choice questions).

It is possible to enroll in nearly all courses offered in the current academic year for
undergraduate, single-cycle and graduate degree programs. However, there may be
some courses that are not available for individual enrollment or require special
permission to enroll. You can refer to the course catalog to find information such as
Milano course syllabus, instructor, university credits (CFU), scientific disciplinary sector(s) (SSD) and related degree program for the course you are interested in.
Those who wish to enrol on single courses must have at least an upper secondary
school diploma (or equivalent qualification).
It is possible to attend up to 4 courses.
Individual courses can be taken as part of various undergraduate, graduate or single-cycle degree programs. These courses allow students to attend classes, take exams and receive a certificate. Single courses are suitable for individuals who want to stay current on certain subjects or enhance their professional skills, those who have graduated but need to take additional courses for public competition or post-graduate school admission, those who need to fulfill curriculum requirements for a graduate program, and university students in Italy or abroad who want to attend specific classes as part of program agreements or for personal interest.
The assessment of previous academic records is only necessary if stipulated in the
